Ceramic Coating Cost In Hamilton (2026) | Mats Detailing

Written by Mat, Mats Detailing · Updated October 2026

Ceramic coating at Mats Detailing in Hamilton costs from $300 for a 1-year coating on a small car, up to $1,700 for our 10-year graphene coating on an extra-large vehicle. Most of our clients choose Wizard 5 Year graphene, which costs $900 to $1,200 depending on the size of the vehicle. If your paint needs correcting first, that's priced separately, from $300.

Key takeaways:

  • Price depends on three things: vehicle size, how long you want the coating to last, and your paint's condition.

  • Our coatings range from 1 to 10 years of durability.

  • Paint correction before coating is the biggest extra cost, and the biggest difference to the finished result.

  • A ceramic coating makes washing easier and boosts gloss, but it doesn't stop stone chips. That's what paint protection film is for.

These are the same prices listed on our ceramic coating page. All coatings are Fireball, applied by Mat at our Riverlea workshop.

  • FX88 7 Year Graphene: small $1,000, medium $1,100, large $1,200, extra large $1,300

  • Eternity 10 Year Graphene: small $1,400, medium $1,500, large $1,600, extra large $1,700

Prices exclude any paint preparation. As a rough guide, small means hatchbacks and small cars, medium means sedans and small SUVs, large means large SUVs and utes, and extra large means vans and 7-seaters. We'll confirm your size when we quote.

What Changes The Price Of A Ceramic Coating?

1. The size of your vehicle. A bigger vehicle has more paint to prepare and coat, so it takes more product and more time.

2. How long you want it to last. Longer-lasting coatings use more advanced formulas and more layers. Our 5, 7 and 10-year coatings are graphene-infused for extra slickness and water beading.

3. The condition of your paint. A coating locks in whatever is underneath it for years. If your paint has swirls, scratches or oxidation, we recommend paint correction first, from $300. Skipping it is the most common ceramic coating mistake. We explain why in What Happens If You Skip Paint Correction Before Ceramic Coating?

4. Extras. You can add our Raptor coating for wheels and trim (priced on quote), interior protection (from $400 with a ceramic coating), or paint protection film on high-impact areas.

Why Cheap Ceramic Coatings Can Cost More

You'll see "ceramic" spray products and very cheap coating deals online. Spray products are great for topping up protection, but they last months, not years. A cheap professional coating usually means the preparation was rushed, and preparation is what decides how good the coating looks and how long it lasts.

When you compare quotes, ask:

  • Which coating is it, and how long is it rated to last?

  • Is a decontamination wash included?

  • Will the paint be corrected first, or just coated as it is?

  • What aftercare do they recommend, and does it affect the warranty?

Which Coating Should You Choose?

Choose based on how long you plan to keep the car.

  • Selling within a year or two: Stella 1 Year or Hera 3 Year

  • Keeping a daily driver for the next few years: Wizard 5 Year graphene

  • Driving long distances, or coating a boat: FX88 7 Year graphene

  • Protecting a new car or a keeper: Eternity 10 Year graphene

Is Ceramic Coating Worth It?

For most people keeping their car for a few years, yes. Washing becomes much quicker, dirt and bird droppings come off more easily, and the paint stays glossy instead of slowly dulling under the Waikato sun.

It's not worth it if:

  • You regularly use automatic brush car washes, which wear coatings down and cause swirls

  • You want stone chip protection. A coating won't stop chips, but paint protection film will

  • You're selling the car in the next few months. A good detail will give you more for your money

  • Your paint is badly damaged and you don't want it corrected first

Ceramic Coating vs PPF: How The Cost Compares

Paint protection film costs more because it's a thick physical film that absorbs stone chips. Our full front PPF starts from $2,500. Many owners combine the two: PPF on the front of the car, and a ceramic or graphene coating over everything. Our Signature New Car bundle, full front PPF plus Wizard 5 Year graphene, starts from $3,400.
